A1 and A2 courses are for anyone who is involved in NVQs and wishes to train as an NVQ assessor
A2 award
This award enables people to be able to assess NVQ level 2 or level 3 candidates on their practical skills either in the workplace or within a hairdressers training organization.
A1 award (the A1 award includes the A2)
The A1 Award is for those people who wish to hold the required qualifications to be able to assess all the knowledge requirements as well as the practical requirements of a NVQ level 2 or level 3 award.
What will you study
A2. Assessing Candidates' performance through Observation
- Agreeing and reviewing plans for candidates' performance
- Assessing candidates' performance against agreed standards
- Assessing candidates' knowledge against agreed standards
- Making an assessment decision and giving feedback
A1 assessing Candidates Using a Range of Methods
- Developing plans for assessing competence with candidates.
- Judging evidence against agreed standards to make assessment decisions.
- Giving candidate feedback and support on your assessment decisions
- Contributing to the internal quality assurance process
How will the training for these courses take place
A2: 4x two hour training sessions
A1: 6 x two hour training sessions
All training sessions will take place at our Wigan training centre. Training sessions will take place on a Tuesday evening from 6.00pm and finish at 8.00pm. For information on the start date of the next course see the contact details below.
How you will complete the award
You will receive individual help and support from at least two trainers who will guide you on putting together the evidence in a portfolio to demonstrate your competence as an NVQ assessor.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed by a variety of methods such as portfolio work and observation of you working with your NVQ candidates. You should be able to complete the A2 in approximately 3 months and the A1 in 6 months.
Entry requirements
You will need to have vocational qualifications to at least level 3 and relevant experience in the vocational area you wish to assess. You will also need access to at least 2 NVQ candidates who are currently working towards their qualification. It would be an advantage in completing the award to have learners working towards their NVQ in your salon.
